Golf at the championship links course – Connemara Golf Club

Designed by Eddie Hackett and Tom Craddock this 7,229 yards classic links course is a true test for the best of golfers. The par 72 is rarely achieved which is due in part to the vastness of the last six holes. Greens set high in the hillside on the 14th & 15th can be unnerving, particularly after playing the spectacular par 3 13th hole. Take time however to enjoy the invigorating air and breathtaking scenery and marvel at the splendid scenic backdrop of the Twelve Bens and the pure white sandy beaches.

Walking in Connemara

Connemara is the perfect landscape for walking. The sheer variety of terrain, which may be experienced in a couple of hours, has attracted walkers from all over the world. Walkers of all varieties come to Connemara simply to enjoy the hidden landscape and enjoy studying the amazingly contorted geology of Connemara. To wander unfettered amidst the wild and desolate mountains is definitely to experience the ultimate in walking. In the last bastion of land-based wilderness, an untamed world unfolds that is far removed from the realm of humankind. Connemara is a land of high relief, full of towering peaks, expansive mountain plains, cliff-edged corries and fabulous trails of meandering ridges that run in a confused maze around the ensnared valleys. Connemara is a magical place to walk and full of romance.

We have our own qualified tour guide who will only be too delighted to sit with you to plan your day’s activities. Or if you would prefer, after you make your reservation, we can forward to you a suggested itinerary for your stay with us. Just tell us the type of walks you like and your experience and we will do the rest.

Beach Pony Trekking & Camp for Children

Nearby we have a riding centre, which provides fabulous treks to the islands and beaches. The safe and well-schooled horses and ponies are suitable for all ages and standards. Short and long treks are provided and we can even arrange a sunset trek if you wish. Also we can arrange a pony camp for children.

Special reduced rates are available via Byrne's Mal Dua House for a 90 minute trek along a most beautiful beach.

Kylemore Abbey & Garden

A visit to Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden is a must when you visit Connemara. The home of the Irish Benedictine Nuns it is also an international boarding school for girls and a major visitor attraction in the area. It offers a visitor centre, self guided tours of the abbey, gothic church and mausoleum and also has a large shop for souvenirs and a café where everything is home cooked. A shuttle bus takes you to the recently restored Victorian Walled Garden where you can enjoy a stroll along the walks.

Aran Islands & Inishbofin Island

The Irish speaking Aran Islands are famous for their unique way of life, where old age traditions co-exist comfortably with modern living. Inis Mor the largest of the three islands is an ancient land, set in an endless sea where great labyrinths of limestone sweep upwards to the breathtaking cliffs with their panoramic views of Connemara.

The unique island of Inishbofin is located only 10 kilometers off the coast of Connemara. The island is a haven of beauty, boasting magnificent scenery from cliff top walks to the sea on all sides to white sandy beaches and an abundance of rare flora and fauna.
